Things I want to see in fall 2025
While perusing the likes of Pinterest, TikTok, and Instagram, there were a few small fashion ‘connections’ I noticed in the posts that caught my attention. Before diving in, I should clarify something - I use like to use the word ‘trend’ very lightly in this context. The things I notice aren’t necessarily widely accepted and trendy, but they are observations that show up enough for me to take notice (because, per our motto, we are always observing). Based on the current zeitgeist, I could see how these observations could potentially develop into being wildly popular the coming months - aka ‘trendy’.
1. Whimsical, magical, circus core
We’ve been living in the age of custom embroidery the last few years. While popular applications have consisted of cheeky sayings, coquette motifs, or something celebrating an aperitif on the coast of Italy (everyone went to Positano it seems), I’m noticing we are starting to transition to a less romantic, and more new-age tumbler-circus-boho-goth-era. ….. and I’m here for it. Here’s a few indie designers I’ve noticed that have run away to join a circus and/or a cult.
2. A focal sock moment
Remember when the trend ‘Eclectic Grandpa’ popped up in the winter of 2023? Well, since then we’ve seen a resurgence of boxy, bold, striped, cardigans, the re-popularization of the 1970’s aviator prescription glasses, and a good, classic loafer. I don’t think this style is going anywhere, but I have noticed people are starting to get a little bolder with their sock of choice when rocking a sneaker, loafer, or even kitten heel. We’ve seen people wearing lacy, white crew sock with their shoes, but now I think people are feeling like socks are a worthy accessory to play with.
3. Unpolished, Motif-Focused Jewelry
Call it boho, call it a resurgence of the ‘Coachella era’, either way, this next observation could be connected to the whimsical/circus trend as mentioned above. Specifically, I’ve noticed jewelry shifting to a more unfinished, matte metals, featuring organic shapes and celestial motifs. So long shiny gold hoops - we seem to be embracing less ‘old money’, and more ‘old world’.
So what do we think? Do you agree that these are ‘emerging’ trends we will see over the course of the next fashion cycle? While I don’t consider myself a psychic, I do have a knack for connecting dots and noticing the small details in people’s outfits and stylistic choices.
bonus trend prediction: bobo the clown will be the Halloween costume of 2025 and/or 2026.
